Emily Flynn

As our newest team member, Emily joins the Stage Door team in 2025 as our Group Singing Class Tutor. Emily is a qualified and experienced Secondary School Teacher, Hakomi Somatic Practitioner (Life Coach), and Psychotherapist Candidate with over 20 years of professional voice teaching, choral singing, and choral conducting experience under her belt. Emily, her husband and three children recently moved to Whakatāne from Whitby, Ontario, Canada.

Emily loves singing and has sung with multiple professional and semi-professional choirs. She is trained in the classical tradition of bel canto (which means “beautiful singing”) as well as in somatic (body-based) therapeutic methods that address and reduce Music Performance Anxiety. She integrates the Hakomi principles of mindfulness, mind-body holism, unity, organicity, and non-violence into her approach, and aims to cultivate a space for singers that feels safe, welcoming, and accepting.

Through Stage Door Group Singing Classes Emily aims to help students embody their performance and their voice, leading to greater authenticity and self-compassion.
Group Singing Class students can expect a holistic approach to singing that is inclusive and uplifting.

In addition to teaching at Stage Door, Emily has a position as an itinerant voice teacher at Whakatāne High School and offers life coaching through her business Three Little Birds Coaching. She also runs a private voice studio and offers workshops for groups and organisations grounded in the Hakomi method.

Emily is excited to start working with her Group Singing Class students, as she believes that learning to sing in a group can be so beneficial, supportive, and fun!
