Important Notices for Asteroids

Throughout the year our Asteroids class have been working on four different songs, which they will ultimately present at our Musical Theatre End of Year Showcase performances at the end of this term, on Saturday November 23rd 2024 (scroll down for more information about our 2024 Musical Theatre Showcase).

TERM ONE SONG
Stick It To The Man - from School of Rock, written by Andrew Lloyd-Webber
Based on the 2003 film of the same name, this great rock musical follows Dewey Finn, an out-of-work rock singer and guitarist who pretends to be a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. After identifying the musical talent in his students, Dewey forms a band of fifth-graders, in an attempt to win the upcoming Battle of the Bands contest - to use the winnings to pay his long overdue rent and avoid eviction.
Our song appears several times throughout the show. Dewey explains to his students that 'The Man' is responsible for everything wrong with the world, and encourages the kids to get angry and shout about how they're going to stick it to The Man.

TERM TWO SONG #1
Singing in the Rain
This classic song comes from the 1952 American musical romantic comedy film by the same name, starring Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds. It offers a lighthearted depiction of Hollywood in the late 1920s.

TERM TWO SONG #2
Showcase Finale: When I Grow Up - from Matilda, The Musical, by Tim Minchin
During Term Two all Musical Theatre Classes started work on our 2024 Musical Theatre Showcase Finale 'When I Grow Up'. This fun number was the first song that the composer wrote for the hit musical Matilda and speaks of the children's desire to grow up and make their own decisions. In it they imagine a time when they will be strong enough to carry the burdens forced upon them and to flush out monsters from under the bed. With over 100 students involved, we look forward to all of our Musical Theatre Classes combining together to perform this song as our 2024 Showcase Finale Song!

TERM THREE SONG
A World of Your Own - from 'Wonka' with music by Neil Hannon
In Term Three our Asteroids are joining together with the SuperNovas class for a fun combined class number - A World of Our Own - from the 2023 musical fantasy film Wonka. This popular movie is based on the early life of Willy Wonka, the fictional chocolatier created by Roald Dahl and expresses Wonka's desire to create a world of his imagination, where he can invent and experiment with new flavours and confections.

Song lyrics and practice tracks for all Asteroids songs can be downloaded from this webpage for practicing at home. Click on the song titles listed on the right hand side of the page, under Resources (above the tutor pics) to access these.
