Performing Arts

The Performing Arts are a form of creative expression which include drama, music and dance.

From 2 year-olds right through to adults, our mission is to not just share our passion for the Performing Arts, but to help students develop their talent, build self confidence and most of all - have fun!

As well as providing a safe and welcoming place for children and young people to express their creativity (and release a little energy!), researchers agree that participating in Performing Arts activities can also be highly beneficial academically and socially.  Kids involved in the Arts have shown improvements in subjects such as maths, reading, and comprehension, and built their critical thinking, cognitive ability and verbal skills.

Regular involvement has also been proven to improve motivation, concentration and teamwork, while building communication skills and increasing social awareness. Through exposure to the Arts students learn to rely on and explore their own initiative and creativity, develop problem solving skills, and most importantly – grow their self-belief and confidence. IMPROVE

    ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

Education policies the world over recognise the value of the Performing Arts in a young person's education.  Music and drama classes cater to all different styles of learning and promote academic growth in many areas.  As well as other important academic gains, they have been proven to significantly improve reading comprehension, the ability to concentrate, and both verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

    DEVELOP

    SELF ESTEEM & CONFIDENCE

Achievements in the Performing Arts help young people recognize their potential for success, and help to build self-belief and self-confidence.  Being able to confidently and competently perform in front of an audience is an extraordinarily valuable skill.  Experiencing and developing this ability as a child is a wonderful asset, and one that will stand young people in good stead as it is applicable to many areas of adult life, both on a personal and professional level (regardless of the career path they find themselves on).

    ENHANCE

    LANGUAGE & COMMUNICATION

Being able to communicate effectively with others is an essential life skill.  Performing Arts classes aid in the development of language and communication skills.  These attributes offer a significant advantage for young people, helping them to connect and engage better both professionally and personally - ultimately standing the in good stead for a fuller, richer, adulthood.

    EXPOSURE  TO

    ART & CULTURE

The impact of regular exposure to arts-focused education is life-long, adding appreciation, depth, and meaning to life - both professionally and personally.

    ENCOURAGE

    CREATIVITY & SELF EXPRESSION

Children have an innate desire to be creative.  They are constantly curious, active, physical and expressive.  Nurturing and encouraging their individual creativity is profoundly important and has amazing benefits.  Drama games and imaginative play challenges and stimulates the brain, encouraging children to be innovative, creative and individual.

    DEVELOP & ENHANCE

    SOCIAL SKILLS

As well as being a fun, safe, social activity for young people, Stage Door Performing Arts classes promote social interaction and co-operation as students work together in a team environment.  Classes significantly aid social and emotional development.

    IMPROVE MUSICAL SKILLS

The benefits here are obvious - improved rhythm, timing, pitch, intonation, and general musicality.  In addition though, active involvement in the Performing Arts (and in learning an instrument, singing tuition and musical theatre classes in particular) also helps to develop the left side of the brain - specifically the are which relates to language and reasoning skills.

    OVERCOME ANXIETY

The achievements of stimply standing on a stage, of performing something you have rehearsed, and of receiving great feedback on a performance are extremely significant.  They are a profound reassurance of worth and self-belief.  Achievements such as these give children and young people a sense of control and empowerment equivalent to winning scholastic prizes or sporting achievements, and will encourage them to dream bigger, aim higher, overcome more obstacles, and achieve greater heights in their next endeavour.

    PROMOTE

    SELF-DISCIPLINE & MOTIVATION

Be it dialogue, lyrics, melodies, dance routines, stage directions, or a combination of these things, memorisation requires thought, accuracy, determination, and practice - often times at home as well as during class time!  The more these skills are practiced the better.

    ENHANCE MEMORIZATION SKILLS

The benefits of enhancing the ability to absort, retain, and recall information are vast.  Possession a great memory is an extremely valuable skill set, and one that is present in the vast majority of highly successful professional adults.  Performing Arts education provides young people with a fun way to develop these skills.

    DEVELOP

    PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY

Individual or group "problems" invariably arise during the the course of a class.  Whether while learning a new song, in choreography, while working to meet a creative challenge, or while performing on stage, these situations provide young people with a fantastic safe place to explore and develop the art of problem solving.  Dealing with unexpected situations and working to find an appropriate solution is an extremely valuable skill which can be nurtured and developed through attendance at Performing Arts classes.
