Productions

Stage Door’s annual youth production provides Eastern Bay of Plenty rangatahi with a positive experience of the performing arts, as well as the opportunity to lead and develop in both on and off stage roles.

Our annual youth production is underpinned by Stage Door’s core values of fun, fostering talent, and enhancing self-esteem. Each year, around 75 young people from across the rohe take part in our youth production in roles both on and off stage - from acting to set design, lighting to marketing, and everything in between!

Our goal is to empower and support our young people. Each young person in a 'Head of Department' role is assigned an adult mentor with a high level or skill, experience, and expertise.

The Little Mermaid Junior (2018)

Our first all-youth production was a huge success when we took Ariel’s undersea journey to the stage in Whakatāne in 2018.

"Stage Door's 2018 production of The Little Mermaid was my first time as Vocal Director for a musical theatre production. The support I had from all of the team, as well as a personal mentor assigned to me by Trace (the director) means I was eased into the role with the skill set needed.” ~ Sophia, Youth Vocal Director - The Little Mermaid (2018)

“Being part of the Little Mermaid was a great journey. I loved that everyone worked together. I got better at singing because we had a vocal coach and we all sang together to get the right pitch. I loved seeing people enjoying what I did on stage.” ~ Jasper, Male Ensemble (and first time on the stage) - The Little Mermaid (2018)
