Chookas

Tuesday 3.15 - 3.45pm (30 minutes) - $110 per term at Stage Door Studios

30 min class for young primary students from 5 years+.

With a focus on building confidence, drama games, and fun, this class is a great introduction to drama and performance for our youngest students. Students rehearse towards a performance at the end of the year.

Important Notices for Chookas

During Term One our focus for all of Stage Door's school aged classes is on establishing connections and creating a safe and fun classroom environment where we hope our students will be able to relax, have fun and grown in confidence and skill throughout the year. We take time to get to know each other, play games and invest in activities designed to promote connection, team work and fun. We find that doing this at the start of the year is absolutely vital to establishing a class culture and environment inline with our tag line that Stage Door is a place "Where Everyone Belongs".

As well as getting to know each other and establishing a supportive class culture, during Term One our Chookas students will focus on learning about and practicing using three of the most important 'tools' we have in our acting toolboxes - our bodies, faces and voices.

By the end of Term Two students are generally issued with a play script which the class will ultimately present at our End of Year Drama Performance in December. In 2025 this performance is scheduled to take place on Saturday 6 December, 2025 (scroll down for more information about our 2025 End of Year Drama Performance).

Parents and Students are asked to keep an eye on this page, where class updates, practice resources and homework notes will be regularly added throughout the year.

Any homework resources or scripts for Chookas can be downloaded from this webpage for practicing at home. Click on the titles listed on the right hand side of the page, under Resources (above the tutor pics) to access these.

All of our Drama Classes are named after a term used in the theatre.

There is a theatre superstition that saying "Good Luck" to someone in the theatre is actually bad luck.
Because of this people involved in the theatre find other ways to wish someone a good show.

'Chookas'  is theatrical slang used (mainly in Australia) to do this.

In New Zealand we say "Toi Toi Toi" or more commonly “Break a Leg”.

END OF YEAR DRAMA PERFORMANCE

Throughout the year all four of our school aged Drama students work on learning techniques and plays which they will ultimately present alongside their classmates at our Drama End of Year Performance.

Drama Performance will be held at Stage Door Studios on Saturday 6 December, 2025.

During Term Four there will be several additional rehearsal sessions as we sort costumes, staging, getting ready in our space and generally preparing for the Performance.

Soon after clases start up students will be issued with a '2025 Important Dates' document with all of these dates.
