Evelyn King Muñoz

Evelyn has been a valued member of the Stage Door team since 2021 when she first came onboard as one of our Preschool Class Tutors and later as our Flamenco Dance Class Tutor.

Trained extensively in Flamenco dance, and as a primary school teacher, with ample experience performing on stage, and as a mum to two young children - Evelyn is the perfect Twinklers and Flamenco tutor!

The daughter of renowned flamenco artists, Evie has an innate passion for dance with a keen eye for movement. After a wonderful Andalusian upbringing in Spain, Evie relocated to New Zealand when she was eight. Once here, Evie trained as a ballet dancer for nine years before completing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Spanish and cultural anthropology in Wellington. While studying Evie was thrilled to get the opportunity to indulge her passion for dance by performing in a Māori-Flamenco fusion work at the Spanish Embassy.

Returning home to Whakatāne, Evie pounced on the chance to play the lead dancer in Theatre Whakatane’s production of ‘Cats’ before she headed back to Europe where she took up a teaching position and was able to spend precious time with her Spanish familia. While there Evie immersed herself in the flamenco culture.

Evie returned home with her husband in 2017, and went on to complete a Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching, whilst getting her dance fix in Theatre Whakatane’s production of ‘The Addams Family’.

While still a valued member of the Stage Door team, Evie is currently taking a break from teaching as she focuses on raising their two young children. We look forward to having her back in the classroom with us in the future.
